SHAC - School Health Advisory Committee
 
A committee of appointed administrators, teachers, paras, nurse, parent and community people. They meet to promote and collaborate ideas for maintaining and educating the importance of health and wellness for the district.  Each building has different activities for the student and staff.
 
Things we are doing for SHAC:
Water Wednesday - Encourage everyone to drink only water
Meet the principal at the pole - walking and jogging
Clock distance around the playground so teachers know how far they are walking while their students are at recess.
Mammograms offered to all teachers from Trinity Mother Francis
Blood work checked by Health Matters for all teachers
Flu shots offered to all teachers from Health Matters
Healthy lunches offered to teachers
Healthy lunches offered to children
Healthy and appropriate snacks offered at the appropriate time of day for students
Healthy lunches offered to students
School nurse available to students
135 minutes of PE per week for all students
75 minutes of recess per week for all students
Community Involvement - Go Texan Day that includes activity booths
Jump Rope for Heart Fund Raiser - Cardiovascular
Pennies for Patience Fund Raiser - Cancer
 
SHAC plays an important role in communicating the connection between health and learning. It reinforces the health knowledge and skills children need to be healthy for a lifetime.
